Settle makes an excellent base for exploring the spectacular limestone scenery and delightful villages of the Yorkshire Dales.
Closer to home, above the town's market square, a winding footpath leads to the summit of Castleberg crag which offers unique views of the town and surrounding countryside. Also nearby are the waterfalls of Scalebar Force, Stainforth Force and Catrigg Force.
Settle is also famous as the historic starting point of the Settle - Carlisle Railway, constructed between 1869 and 1876. One of Great Britain's most spectacular railway lines, the return journey from Settle to Appleby is highly recommended.
To the north of Settle lies the village of Giggleswick, known for its limestone cliffs and caves at Giggleswick Scar, and also Giggleswick School - with its distinctive green copper dome.
